Student Retention Business Tips Point to Ponder

How to Ask for Their Commitment to Training

By Kovar Systems

In order for your martial arts school business to be successful, it is imperative that you have students attending class on a regular basis.

One way to do this is to encourage a commitment to attend one more class from as many students as you can at the close of each class. If you do this over and over, the next thing you know, you’ll be promoting a new group of Black Belts!

Here is a strategy for getting that commitment:

At the end of class, ask everyone who is planning on coming to the next class to raise their hand. If one or two people don’t raise their hand, you can ask them in front of class when they’ll be in next. If it’s more than that, you may need to approach them off the mat.

This accomplishes a few things…

  • They are making a commitment to YOU to attend their next class.

  • They are making a PUBLIC commitment to attend their next class.

  • Then, if they’re at home and feeling a bit unmotivated, they’ll remember they made a promise and that will help get them to class.

It’s important to find lots of ways to remind your students to attend class regularly so you can help them on their journey to Black Belt. Try asking your students to commit to their next class to keep them coming back for more.
