Quick Guide to Successful School Growth

By Kovar Systems

With the first month of the year winding down, it’s time to start thinking about the changes you can implement to increase success for the year within your martial arts school. Follow this quick guide to help maximize your business growth for the year.

  1. Set a clear goal
The first step to growing your school is to set a growth goal. Is it to increase your new student count by 50? Is it to maintain a low quit rate? Write down your goal and be specific. Once you have a clear objective, you can then make a game plan to accomplish your goal.
  1. Become a familiar name

Increasing brand awareness is much easier in the age of social media. Stay active on Facebook and utilize high engagement options to reach your target market directly. High engagement and fast responses will lead to more students walking through the door.

Take advantage of nearby events. Throughout the year there are seasonal festivals, athletic vendor events, and school assemblies that will help spread your brand if you get involved. Mark your calendars with the events that will help your school grow! Offer collateral that provide information about the value of your school to interested inquiries.

  1. Develop a site

Developing a website for your martial arts school is essential for its success. Be sure that the site is easy to navigate, provides information about your school, has an appealing interface, easily accessible through search engines, and encourages viewers to sign up. Offering a special that viewers can sign up for through your site will allow your school to connect with them. Have your front desk staff give these leads a call, and if they haven’t done so already, make an appointment to get started.

  1. Speedy inquiry response

Prioritizing inquiry calls have a direct correlation with appointments made. The longer a prospective student is waiting for a response to schedule an appointment, the less likely they’ll be willing to schedule the appointment. Responding within 10 minutes of the initial inquiry will almost always result in an appointment made. After 24 hours of no response, interest to start your program plummets and the appointment booking process becomes more difficult.

The start of the year is a great time to review the phone script you have in place. Implement changes if you’re not making appointments on the majority of the calls.

  1. Quality front desk staff

Your front desk staff is the primary touch point for all existing and potential students. A trained front desk staff is a critical asset to your school. Again, investing time in creating a phone script for your staff will be extremely beneficial to them and the school. A script will help with fluidity on a phone conversation, and in turn result in more booked appointments. Encourage your front desk staff to talk to students and parents coming in. Allow room for them to be personable, whether it be on the phone or in person.

  1. Believe in your value

Take a minute to think about the fundamentals of your business, the mission and the vision for your school. Share these with your team, implement these in your staff training, and apply these to your day-to-day operations. A team that is behind your purpose can better communicate that to your existing and potential students. The success of a school relies heavily on the belief of the team running it.

We recommend planning ways to incorporate these six tips within your business starting now. The earlier you start implementing, the faster you'll see results.
