In any industry there are trends that pop-up one day and are gone the next. Especially with social media, it’s hard to decipher what trends are worth participating in and which ones are just a waste of time and/or money.
Here is a quick checklist for how to make trends work for your martial arts school and not against it:
- Keep Your Eyes Open. If you aren’t watching social media, chances are you might miss a lot of trends that will attract new martial arts students. You don’t have to have your eyes glued to the newsfeeds, but checking in once in a while might help you know when something is popular or when the opportunity has passed. As soon as people start interacting, you should start planning how you can utilize the trend for your martial arts school business through marketing, programs, etc.
- Double Check, Ask Someone. It never hurts to do a quick check on the actual viral-ness of a trend. If you are interested in participating in it, it doesn’t hurt to ask one of your own martial arts school students that you have good rapport with about it and what the origin is… Origin is important. You really don’t want your school participating in something against your values or intentions.
- Timing is Everything. If you aren’t participating while it’s brand new and fresh to social media, you want to avoid digging up an old trend and appearing outdated or worst scenario… annoying. Although it may be popular right now, be aware that it might not be so popular or exciting for a summer camp theme in the following months.
- It’s Okay Not to Participate. Sometimes trends come and go so fast or there are so many that it can be really hard to keep up with every single one. If you can only maximize on a few trends every year, that’s okay! After all, Martial Arts will always be far more outlasting than any trend that might pass you by.
