How Black Belt Clubs Increase Retention

Offering a martial arts Black Belt Club or a similar designation in your school is a powerful tool that can be used to increase retention dramatically. We are often asked about how we structure our Black Belt Club within our own martial arts schools...

What kind of a discount do members get on retail? Do we have a special class only for them? Do they get to wear a cool uniform? For how long do they enroll?

The truth is that our Black Belt Club doesn't have anything to do with wearing a red uniform that has a neon Black Belt Club patch on it... or enrolling in a 3 1/2 year program... or having a special members-only training class. There is nothing wrong with any of those things, but the real goal of the Black Belt Club is to have the martial arts students make a public commitment to getting their Black Belt.

Public-made commitments are powerful. It is a lot more challenging to go back on a promise that has been made in front of the class. That's why our Black Belt Club commitment has nothing to do with money. By focusing on getting a Black Belt commitment from your students, you can build retention and ensure the future of your martial arts school.
